• Professor Jian Yang received her PhD in Data Science from the Australian National University in 1995. Prior to BNBU, she worked as a full professor at Macquarie University, Australia (2004-2025); as an associate professor at Tilburg University, Netherlands (2000-2004); a senior research scientist at CSIRO, Australia (1998-2000); and as a lecturer at the University of New South Wales (1993-1998).

    Professor Yang conducts research in data science, machine learning and service computing. She has more than 300 papers published in prestigious journals and top conferences in these disciplinary areas. She has been recognised among the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists worldwide for her career-long impact since its first release in 2019. As of December 2025, her Google Scholar citations exceed 12,000 with an H-index of 52. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems (IJCIS); Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Service Computing; Founding member and the Steering Committee Chair of the International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC).

    Before joining BNBU, Professor Yang was the inaugural Director of Macquarie University Data Horizons research Centre; the Founding and Deputy Director of the Applied AI research centre at Macquarie University; the Director of the Industry PhD programme at the national Digital Finance Cooperate Research Centre. She was on the executive team of The Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia (CORE).
