To enhance students' understanding of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies and expand their knowledge of machine learning, on the afternoon of November 23rd, the Master of Science in Business Statistics (MSCBS) program of our university invited Professor Yida Xu from the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University to hold a special lecture on ‘Multi-Head Attention: Concepts and Implementation in PyTorch’ for all students of the university.

MSCBS Program Director Prof. Xiaoling Peng served as the host. Prof. Peng first introduced Prof. Yida Xu's background to the audience. Prof. Xu’s research field is machine learning and artificial intelligence. He has 36,000 followers on Bilibili and most of his fans have stated that his videos explaining machine learning knowledge are the clearest and most understandable. Prof. Peng expressed her sincere gratitude for Prof. Xu's visit and sharing.

Professor Xu started from the basic concepts and disassembled the core of the Transformer model - the multi-head attention mechanism - in a clear and easy-to-understand way. Through case analysis and code practice, he made the complex algorithm principles intuitive and perceptible. His vivid demonstration led the students to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of large models, stimulating their strong interest.

The atmosphere at the event was lively. During the interactive session, students actively participated and vied to ask questions to Prof. Yida Xu. During the event, Prof. Xiaoling Peng invited Professor Xu to share some excellent AI tools to broaden the students' horizons. At the end of the event, Prof. Peng, on behalf of MSCBS, presented Prof. Yida Xu with a 20th-anniversary souvenir of BNBU, expressing sincere gratitude for his presence and continuous support for MSCBS.

The Master of Science in Business Statistics (MSCBS) program is based on the Master of Science in Operational Research and Business Statistics (ORBS) established by Hong Kong Baptist University in 2007. It is jointly offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology of Beijing Normal Hong Kong Baptist University and the Department of Mathematics of Hong Kong Baptist University, and is aimed at cultivating internationalized interdisciplinary talents who can comprehensively apply business management and modern statistical analysis techniques in the digital economy era. In the future, MSCBS will continue to strengthen communication and exchanges with the parent institution, Hong Kong Baptist University, and strive to provide students with more high-quality learning platforms and valuable information through the joint efforts of the teaching staff from both institutions.
